Tofifest International Film Festival, Torun

It's been called a festival for dreamers, for independent thinking.

Held in Torun in tofifest film festivalcentral Poland, Tofifest is one of the fastest developing Polish film events presenting cinema by young directors from all over the world, as well as classics of cinematography. Lifastyle AKTIVIST monthly has called Tofifest "... a Polish Sundance", and Poland's biggest daily, Gazeta Wyborcza wrote: "... it is one of most-known and opinion-making festivals of independent cinema in Poland”.

The Festival has already been visited by such guests as famous europeen actress Emmanuelle Seigner (Frantic, Bitter Moon), two-time Oscar nominees: Agnieszka Holland (Europe, Europe) and Miroslav Ondricek (Ragtime, Amadeus, Hair), the winner of Venice’s Golden Lions Krzysztof Zanussi (Constans) and the winners of Silver Bear in Berlin Martha Meszaros (Napló szerelmeimnek) or Cannes’ Golden Palm winner Krystyna Janda (Przesłuchanie).

Tofifest is the festival of insolent cinema, of young, rebellious free spirits. It is a review of pictures, which can be rarely seen on Polish screens - in 2007, 92 titles were shown as premieres.

Tofifest is also an internationalist festival, the 6th edition included films from 46 countries, including Serbia, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Hungary, Norway, Turkey, South Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, India, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, Chile, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, USA, Croatia, the Canary Islands, Bulgaria, Romania, South Africa, Portugal, China and Poland.

Location Torun

Held in Torun each year, films are shown in and around the historic old town city centre. Toruń is an old city, but young at heart with a large university campus, over 35 thousand students and over 250 pubs, clubs, discotheques, restaurants and coffee bars sprinkled across the old city.
